Death Knights

by Inkbard on September 14th, 2010

I think the basic appeal of drawing Death Knights lies in the fact that they start with such awesome and complete armor sets. From the moment they’re created they look the part of an undead badass, right down to their shoes. Still, I wasn’t motivated to draw my new Orc DK until I decided to pick up a hawk owl pet for her. I always thought those birds were creepy looking so it fits her fairly well. Once I’m done with Hard Lessons I may draw the story of how she got it.

Hard Lessons

by Inkbard on September 13th, 2010

This is a little seven page story about a couple of my characters that don’t exactly get to interact in game.

If it isn’t glaringly obvious I figure this is a good time to point out how much I love dwarves, particularly in Warcraft. While I find the dwarfs* of Warhammer far more badass the Warcraft dwarves have such an interesting dynamic that it’s hard for me to deny that they’re my favorites. The War of the Three Hammers and the subsequent political and cultural differences between the clans makes the dwarves of Warcraft far more diverse than dwarves generally are in a fantasy setting. I’m excited to see where things go in the next expansion.

*Dwarfs is the proper spelling of the plural for dwarf and is used as such in the Warhammer universe. Most fantasy worlds follow in Tolkein’s footsteps and spell the plural form as dwarves. This has been your educational moment for the day!

The Losing End

by Inkbard on September 6th, 2010

This is a little story I wrote for a contest back before I decided this character worked better as a hunter. One day I might alter it to reflect that profession change but otherwise I’m pleased with how it turned out. The theme for the contest was “Another Day in Northrend”.

The clatter of steel on tin announced the sad ending of Aegrid’s meal as she scooped the last of the pemmican out of its tin with the flat blade of her Gnomish Army Knife. She popped the morsel into her mouth and chewed sullenly as she wiped the knife blade on her britches and packed it and the tin away again. After a moment of dedicated chewing she turned and spat out the solitary dried frostberry that had marred the otherwise pristine blend of meat and fat.

“I don’t know how you eat that stuff,” Emry blanched.

Beginning & Ending

by Inkbard on August 30th, 2010

Towards the end of my Warhammer career I had toyed with the idea of rerolling my Knight of the Blazing Sun, Margret, into a Chosen, sex restrictions be damned! When the time finally came to close the Warhammer chapter entirely I decided that was an appropriate end for the character considering the Dooming that I’d already given her. (The Tribes of Norsca refer to Tzeentch as Tchar the Eagle.) So here, in effect, is the beginning and the ending of that character with a cameo by my big, handsome Marauder. Oooh, Mr. Crabclaws!

Beginning & Ending

What light filtered through the ragged branches cast a pale sheen of dawn across the narrow rut that managed for a path but did nothing to cast off the bitter chill of night. Margret’s fingers were ice cold inside her gloves and the scarf around her face only kept the dampness of her breath muffled against her skin. She could feel the little colt shivering beside her, and his breath puffed out in pale clouds as they walked.
